KDADALAK SULIMUTUK INSTITUTE (KSI)
"Friends Of Peasants for Transformation"

After more than two decades of resistance againt colonialism and neo-colonialism, the Timor-Leste’s unilateral proclamation of independence was internationally recognised, under the United Nations Transitional Administration for East Timor (UNTAET), in May 20, 2002. In order to contribute to the process of transformation, hoping to infavour of the majority of the Timorese people that are farmers, a group of student solidarity members established Kdadalak Sulimutuk Institute in 2000. Among the original founding members are Antero Benedito da Silva, Jose da Costa Magno, Mateus Tilman and Maria Angelina Lopes Sarmento.

The name Kdadalak Sulimutuk came from a song, Kdadalak sulimutuk, suli we inan, composed by Franscico Borja da Costa, a poet and a political leader, who was brutally executed by Indonesian armed forces in the first day of the invasion, December 07, 1975. Literally, ‘kdadalak Sulimutuk, suli we inan’ means ‘streams meet, flow great rivers.’ Ordinary oppressed people, come together they could make great changes. Kdadalak Sulimutuk Institute is built on the fundamental values of humanism, ecological protection and people’s democracy. The basic guiding principles include; solidarity social, social and ecological justice, and constant learning.
